How to Play Double Solitaire is played like the normal single solitaire you're probably used to except that there are two players and both players play cards onto eight piles instead of the normal four piles. The cards are dealt into seven columns. The first column has one card, the second two, the third three and so forth. The remaining cards are retained in the deck. When first dealt, each column has one card exposed. The cards from the deck can be turned over three at a time onto the stack where they are show face up. You can cycle through the deck onto the stack as many times as you like, but unless you have moved a card from the stack onto a column or played it, the order will not change. Cards may be moved from the stack onto the columns or from one column to another. The card moved onto a column must be one less that the one currently showing on the top of the column and must be the opposite color, i.e. only a red (diamond or heart) four could be moved onto a black (spade or club) five. A group of cards from one column may be moved to another column as long as the highest value card in the group follows is one less than the column being moved to and of the opposite color. Cards may be moved by clicking on them with the left mouse button and dragging to the desired destination. They may also be moved by using the keyboard shortcuts. Cards may be played from the top of the stack or the top card in a column to a pile in the play area. Each pile must be started by an ace of a particular suit. Then cards of that suit will be played onto it. You can play onto piles which are started by your opponent (the fun begins!). Cards may be played by using the mouse to move to the play area, by double-clicking on the card to be played or by using the keyboard shortcuts. When you think the game is done, you can ask your opponent if they are ready to play a new game by selecting the New Game option from the menu at the lower right of the Double Solitaire window. You can also send graphic/audio messages to your opponent by the Message menu option or chat with your opponent by the Chat menu option. You might see some players moving quite fast. They are most likely using keyboard shortcuts, which everyone has the option of using. Also, you may occasionally play a card and then have it reversed with an "Ooops" message. That happens when the other player has actually played the card first, but because of the delay over the Internet, the play had not come through when you had played your card. The software determines who was first in this case and gives it to the earliest player...there is no favoritism.
